Home-Einstok Olgerd
Even though Reykjavik had the storm of a century this past weekend, Becky still somehow managed to surprise me with an Icelandic beer, and I've got to say she chose very well. This toasted coffee porter pours almost opaque with a one and a half finger brown head. There is an immediate aroma of coffee and toasted malts pouring out of this beer. The upfront flavor is slightly grainy, but that quickly turns into an intense chocolatey coffee flavor. Additionally there is a toasty bread flavor hidden in the middle, which I found very reminiscent of a slightly burnt slice of buttered toast. As you get further into the beer the flavor shifts from coffee more towards chocolate with some malty sweetness. It has a nice medium-full body a slightly drying finish from the coffee flavor and silky lacing on the glass that holds up well over time.
